Forgotten how to dress with style after the year that was 2020?
It’s time to leave the loungewear for the weekend. We’ve partnered with Studio 10’s resident style expert, Victoria Latu, to discover this year’s must-have winter wardrobe essentials.
From classic items that will never go out of style, to brand new statement pieces, Victoria reveals the items that will keep you warm and on-trend for the months ahead.
Too cool for a shirt but not cold enough for a jacket? Enter – the ‘shacket’. This versatile shirt-jacket hybrid is the ultimate smart-casual staple.
“The shacket comes in all different tones and textures,” says Victoria. “Wool blend and plaid check shackets are my favourites at the moment.”
“Featuring the looseness of a shirt but made with a heavier fabric, the shacket is oversized, so it’s best combined with a tight-knit top and skinny jeans to keep it sleek and stylish. Wear it buttoned up or undone as an off-duty layering piece.”
You can find these at Dotti, Ally Fashion, Cotton On and City Chic.
The wide-leg pant
According to Victoria, wide-leg pants are flattering for every body type. “Stick to warm-hued neutrals such as cream, beige, chocolate and deep brown, paired with a tall heel to give the illusion of legs a mile long. If you’re feeling adventurous, try a wide-leg jean with a pastel knit for a pop of colour.”
You can find these at Ally Fashion, Dotti and Cotton On.
The oversized blazer
For a piece that takes you from day to night, you need not look further than a blazer – a trusted go-to. “You can’t go wrong with an oversized blazer, styled with a great pair of jeans or tight black pants and a nice top,” says Victoria. “They’re great just as great for the office as they are for an evening out.”
You can find these at Harris Scarfe, Cotton On and Dotti.
The combat boot
Step out in style with the shoe of the season – the combat boot. With so many varieties of combat boots available, Victoria suggest you keep it simple. “The combat boot doesn’t mean you have to fully embrace your grungy side. Instead, pair some non-laced combat boots with an oversized crisp white shirt, sweater vest and blue denim skinny jeans to let those big boots make a statement.”
The leather midi skirt
It’s leather weather! Add an extra edge to your everyday look with jackets, dresses, shorts and Victoria’s personal favourite, the vegan leather midi skirt.
“Leather rarely goes out of style and this year the leather midi is my essential style piece. Don’t be afraid to match tonal colours, reinforce the colour of your leather piece through the rest of your outfit – all the way down to your accessories.”
You can find these at Ally Fashion and City Chic.
